I have been an open source programmer and a Debian developer since the mid 90s, initially on hamradio related kernel drivers and utilities which then developed into maintaining two system administration utilities; psmisc and procps. I also maintain the WordPress package which means I can hack PHP and have experienced the Debian security tracker too many times.
Beyond Debian, I enjoy hiking and camping and skiing badly (even for an Australian).
After 28 years in Debian, this is my first in-person DebConf.
Accepted Talks:
Free as in Bytes
How much memory is free on your system? It seems like a simple enough answer and for some people it is “whatever the free program says”.
But what if you wrote the free program? Or if you think free is not giving the right answer?
This talk will briefly describe the evolution of how Linux slices up its memory and how the procps free utility plays catch-up, a discussion about what “Free as in Bytes” means and gives some insight about how it is really difficult to first define what free memory is and boil it down to a single number that everyone agrees on.
Meet the Technical Committee
An opportunity to meet the members of the Debian Technical Committee who are in attendance at DebConf, hear the status of open issues, and discuss pending and future issues.
