Speaker: Mylena Angelica

Track: Human Factors

Type: BoF (45 minutes)

This session will focus on the importance of encouraging diversity, specifically women’s participation, in the Debian community and the broader tech landscape. Despite growing awareness, women remain underrepresented in open-source projects, and this talk aims to address the challenges and opportunities for increasing their involvement. We will explore how the Debian community can be more inclusive, the benefits of having diverse contributors, and the unique perspectives women bring to the table in shaping Debian’s future.

The audience for this talk includes current Debian contributors, women in tech, and anyone passionate about fostering diversity and inclusivity in open-source communities. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the importance of supporting women in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, with a specific focus on Debian. Through real-world examples, we’ll discuss initiatives such as mentorship, outreach programs, and the creation of supportive environments that encourage women to contribute to Debian and other open-source projects.
