How to reach Brest and the venue

1. By train:

Brest can be reached by train from the Paris-Montparnasse train station (via Rennes). There are other less frequent direct trains, from Lyon and Bordeaux for example.

Travel from the Brest Train/Coach station to the IMT Atlantique campus

Public transport

From the train station, you need to walk to the “Kennedy Gare” bus stop, and take bus number 2b all the way to the last stop, Technopôle. To reach the Kennedy Gare bus stop, when exiting the station, walk along the left hand side of the parking lot, then cross the Avenue Salaün Penquer (next to the large roundabout “Rond Point Henri-Rol-Tanguy”). The bus stop is on the left of the pedestrian crossing.

For being able to buy the ticket on the bus, be sure to carry enough coins or small banknotes with you. Alternatively, previously install the bibus app. See the General information about the public transformation section below for more information.

Taxis

Taxis are available in front of the station. The trip takes about 20 minutes.

By bike

You can find many steep slopes in Brest. We suggest to take this bike path from the station to the venue. While it is not the shortest, it is probably one of the flattest paths.

2. By coach

There are long-distance coach lines serving the train/coach station (“Gare Routière”):

To reach the venue, follow the same instructions than when arriving by train.

3. By flight:

Brest’s international airport (BES), located in Guipavas, has a decent connectivity to major European cities. You can reach the Brest Airport within an hour from Paris CDG (up to 29 flights per week), or London by flight. Other direct flight destinations (which may be seasonal) include Lyon, Marseille, Nantes and Toulon.

More information about the flights available and the schedules can be found on the airports’s website.

If your final flight to France is Paris CDG, there are rare but convenient train journeys from the airport TGV station. Those journeys require, at least, a connection in Rennes, but the full trip may be shorter than getting to the Paris Montparnasse train station and then a train to Brest.

Transport from the airport to the university campus:

Public transport

A shuttle bus connects the airport to one of the ends of the tram line, at “Porte de Gouesnou” (prononced [ɡwenu] / gwenú). You can find the (line 20) shuttle times on the airport website. Please check the Bibus website for tram times.

Take the tram towards “Porte de Plouzané”. Get off at the “Liberté” stop if you want to go to the city centre of Brest. If you are coming directly to the IMT Atlantique venue, get off at the “Fort Montbarey” stop, then take bus number 2b and get off at the “Technopôle” stop (final stop).

Taxis

A taxi ride from Brest-Bretagne Airport to the university campus takes 30 to 40 minutes. Depending on the date and time of the day, the taxi ride may cost between 40 and 60€.

4. By ferry

Ferries from Plymouth (England) and Cork (Ireland) arrive in Roscoff, located 75 kilometers away from the University campus.

It is possible to use public transportation for going from Roscoff to Brest. Find the timetables on the journey finder of the regional transport authority BreizhGo.

General information about Brest public transportation

The public transport operator in the Brest area is Bibus. You can find detailed information on their website: https://www.bibus.fr/en.

Tickets

For €1.70 (in February 2025) you can travel for one hour on any part of the Bibus network (airport shuttle, tram, bus and cable). So you don’t need to buy an aditional ticket if you make any connection, but you must stamp it at every connection. There are different ways to buy a ticket, fully detailed at https://www.bibus.fr/en/fares/buy-tickets.

The main public transportation stop in Brest town centre is Liberté. Follow these instructions if you want to reach town centre from the venue:

1. At the Plouzané Technopôle stop, take bus 2b towards Fort Montbarey and
get off at the Porte de Plouzané or Recouvrance stops.

2. Take the tram towards Porte de Gouesnou-Porte de Guipavas and get off at
   the Liberté stop.

On holidays and week-ends, the 1-day ticket (4.5€) can be used for up to 4 people. Valid the whole day.
